For Actors

Are you one of those who create Jämtland culinary experiences? As a producer, food artisan, chef, restaurateur, or entrepreneur, you are a vital part of what has made Östersund and Jämtland Härjedalen Sweden’s only UNESCO City of Gastronomy. Through your work with local ingredients, flavors, and culinary experiences, you contribute to developing a food culture that inspires far beyond the region’s own borders.

As an actor, it should be easy to benefit from the UNESCO award. On this page, we have therefore collected material to make it easier for you to incorporate the award into your own communication, as well as information on how you can take part in local collaborations, events, international exchanges and fairs.

Five Principles to Rally Around

To be part of Östersund UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy, we wish that your business strives for the following:

Local Roots

You highlight the Jämtland food culture in your business, either traditionally or in combination with influences and ideas from other parts of the world. When possible, you choose local ingredients and are happy to collaborate with local producers.

Quality

With a conscious approach, you work with quality, knowledge, and great care for the final product.

Sustainability

You consider season, distance, and environment when choosing your ingredients and composing your menus.

Knowledge Exchange
and Collaboration

It feels good to contribute to the region’s gastronomic development by participating in the network’s activities and events, both locally and globally.

Be a Good Ambassador

You want to be part of strengthening the image of Jämtland Härjedalen as a food region and contribute to the pride and visibility of the designation.

Local Visibility

By including a short text about Östersund UNESCO Creative Cities of Gastronomy or adding the designation’s logo to your marketing, you show that you are one of the operators who, building on tradition, achieve creative heights and deliver world-class Jämtland gastronomy.

International Exchanges

Invitations to various trade fairs, events, and exchanges are sent out from different cities in the UNESCO network. This can include everything from show cooking events and workshops to study trips and markets/fairs. The inviting cities usually cover the cost of exhibition space and accommodation – and in some cases, airfare. Sometimes cities invite chefs or food artisans and/or individuals from public sector organizations. It varies depending on the type of event.

Östersund Municipality and Region Jämtland Härjedalen, together with Mid Sweden University, can assist with coordinating travel, materials, presentations, and contacts within the network. However, we do not pay fees for participation; you provide that time yourself.

Do you have questions about exchanges, logo usage, or need help getting in touch with another city in the network? Contact us!
